Erik Perrins, University Distinguished Professor and chair of KU Electrical Engineering &

Erik Perrins

Computer Science, will present his inaugural distinguished professor lecture,“Finding the Signal in the Noise: The Hidden Magic of Error Correcting Codes in Deep-Space Radios,” at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 11 in the Beren Petroleum Conference Center in Slawson Hall.

Perrins will explore how error-correcting codes and advances in aeronautical telemetry allow critical data to be recovered from spacecraft signals buried in background noise, drawing on the recent Artemis II test flight to illustrate how research advances move from the laboratory to real-world space missions.

Congratulations to Professor Perrins on this well-deserved distinction and recognition of his outstanding contributions to communications research, teaching, and the EECS community.
