NSF supports two EECS faculty's research with a $1M grant

Two EECS professors receive $1M in funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to address challenges in rural communication. The project, titled "Communication-Computation Co-Design for Rural Connectivity and Intelligence under Nonuniformity: Modeling, Analysis, and Implementation," is funded through the NSF’s Computer and Network Systems Core program. The research will integrate emerging massive multiple-input multiple-output communication technology and multi-user management with the design of hierarchical data processing architectures across the rural infrastructure to adapt based on spatial and temporal demand variations. The research will be conducted by EECS assistant professors Taejoon Kim (PI) and Morteza Hashemi. 

The project will also contribute to the development of a diverse workforce in rural broadband and intelligence through the formation of research teams integrating undergraduate and graduate students across institutions.
