KU Students and Faculty Participate in Major IEEE Communications Conference in Kansas City

KU students and faculty contributed to the IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC) in Kansas City, Mo., in May 2018. ICC is one of two IEEE Communications Society’s flagship conferences. More than 2,000 engineers attended the conference, coming from around the globe. KU EECS was well represented at ICC in Kansas City with a booth on the exhibit floor, symposium and workshop papers as well as invited panel participants. The conference executive chair was Dr. Deep Medhi from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with Dr. Victor Frost from KU serving as the Executive Vice-Chair for the conference. Professor Bardas research on network monitoring was described in the symposium on network security, while Professor Perrins’ work on massive MIMO was presented in the session on compressive sensing. Professor Kim’s research on millimeter-wave networks was also described. Professor Ron Hui’s research on optical transmission technology was reported at the 4th Workshop on Optical Wireless Communications. Professor Frost was an invited panelist at the joint Networking Networking Women (N2Women) and Women in Communications Engineering (WICE) workshop. KU students Matt Bauer, Zeus Gannon and Kishan Kaje; Dan Depardo from KU’s Information and Telecommunications Technology Center; and Professor Frost spent time in the KU EECS booth on the exhibit floor. The booth was a focal point for the many KU EECS alumni attending the conference. Other EECS students supported the event as volunteers.
