EECS CS Ph.D. student David Menager has been selected as a 2016-2020 Madison & Lila Self Graduate Fellow

As an KU EECS senior David received the GEM Fellowship, which is awarded to select highly qualified underrepresented engineering and computer science graduate students who are strongly goal-oriented and bring business skills and vision needed to guide technology-based corporations of tomorrow, thus giving David the opportunity to intern at Adobe Systems Inc. and work on two machine learning projects in the summer of 2015.  Also as an undergraduate at KU, David was awarded the Self Engineering Leadership Fellowship in his junior year. As a Self Fellow, David served as the KU chapter President of the National Society of Black Engineers.  While President, the chapter created many innovative and impactful programs, including David’s best initiative, an after-school program for kids, called “Engineers of the Future”.  Because of this leadership, the KU chapter received a national “Chapter of the Year” award. He also received KU’s Rusty Leffel Concerned Student Award (Story at KU News) David hopes to take all of these experiences, and the opportunities that the Self Graduate Fellowship offers to one day establish his own company and continue to encourage underrepresented groups to join him in promoting scientific discovery.
