Olathe Northwest High School Cyber Patriots Visit EECS

18 students from Olathe Northwest High School Cyber Patriot club visited EECS and the information security club (ISC) in April 2016. The cyber patriots met with KU’s cyber security club, the JayHackers. Team captain Chris Seasholtz and freshman Tyler Michels, both EECS students, talked about collegiate cyber defense competitions, club involvement/activities, and gave a short demo of what the attacking side of a competition does. The group was also very curious about the JayHackers and the cyber defense competitions; these high school students had many questions. The Olathe Northwest cyber patriots were quite excited about what they took away from the discussion and what awaited them as they enter their college years. To experience more about KU and what it’s like to be a Jayhawk, ONW students took a campus tour, had lunch at Mrs. E’s, and then took another School of Engineering tour before heading back to Olathe.

The KU School of Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and the Information Security Club will continue to reach out to the community to highlight security and privacy issues, to introduce education opportunities, and to stimulate public awareness on cyber security.
