Alumnus to Lead Workshop for Medical Device Inventors

Roy Chin (BSEE ’88) will lead a free workshop on Tuesday, Nov. 26 on the topic of “Regulatory & Reimbursement: Issues You Need to Know Now.” The workshop is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon in the Apollo Room at Nichols Hall, followed by lunch for participants.

The workshop is sponsored by KU Innovation and Collaboration and is the third in a series of three “boot camp” presentations this fall on topics in research commercialization, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Chin is a Silicon Valley start-up veteran who holds more than 100 patents. He is a leader in the medical devices industry, having risen through positions with Stryker Endoscopy, Cardiothoracic Systems, AFx, and SpineView, where he served as CEO. He founded and was CEO of Intrepid Medical and is founder, chairman and CEO of Chest Innovations, Inc.

On the 26th, he will discuss intricacies of product development of medical devices and the regulatory path necessary to get the product to market. The willingness of insurance companies to reimburse the cost is also crucial to commercialization success. Chin will address these topics in depth.
