Students from Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools Attend EECS Information Technology Workshop at the KU Edwards Campus


About 80 students from the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools attended the Information Technology Workshop at the KU Edwards Campus on Oct. 24. BSIT faculty ran the event that covered web-design, cyber security and system-administration, along with college and career planning sessions geared toward the IT industry. Hossein Saiedian, director of IT programs and diversity faculty fellow, spearheaded the event as part of his ongoing efforts to serve underrepresented students. The cyber security workshop was conducted by professors of the practice Blake Bryant and Chris Seaholtz. A workshop on computer system administration was run by associate professor of the practice Steve Haenchen and professor of the practice Tim Johnson. Professor of the practice Rassul Saeedipour provided a session on web technologies. Andrew Williams, the Charles E. and Mary Jane Spahr Professor and the School of Engineering Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion shared his experiences in the robotics field and provided encouragement and guidance for the students as they enter the next chapter of their educational journey. Local professionals joined BSIT faculty to share higher education and career advice.
