Staff Fellow Derek Zomer Helps Shape Future of Employee Recognition at KU
We’re pleased to share that Derek Zomer, a member of our department, was recently recognized for his participation in the 2026 cohort of KU’s Staff Fellows Program. This competitive, HR-coordinated leadership opportunity brings together staff from across the university to tackle strategic campus projects.
Derek and his fellow cohort members presented their final report, “All Jayhawks, One Nest: Building appreciation and recognition at the foundation of KU culture, one twig at a time,” which offers research-backed, inclusive, and sustainable recommendations for strengthening employee recognition and appreciation. Their work included a literature review, peer institution analysis, focus groups, and interviews with the Employee Recognition Committee.

Please join us in congratulating Derek on this accomplishment and thanking him for representing our department in this important campus-wide initiative. You can view the full report and recorded presentation online.
