Scholarship Information

The Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department offers merit scholarships to both entering freshmen and current undergraduate students majoring in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science. The scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis according to academic ability, generally without regard to financial need. Some funds, however, do have restrictions as to level, major, state residency, financial need, career interests, and/or participation in university and professional activities.

Incoming students should submit the Application for Freshmen Scholarships to the Office of Admissions and Scholarships. The information provided will be forwarded to both the School of Engineering and the EECS department scholarship committees. An award made to an incoming freshmen is automatically renewable for up to four years provided the student makes satisfactory progress consistent with the recommended course sequence for his or her degree.

Current undergraduates who wish to apply for merit scholarships must have completed at least two semesters as a major in one of the department's degree programs and must be enrolled for at least 12 hours per semester. Applications for the scholarships are available online from early February until May 1 each year. Look for a news item on the main EECS webpage announcing the availability of the application. Awards are made in late May for the following academic year. Students must re-apply annually for these scholarships.

Each year the EECS department designates fifteen students majoring in electrical engineering or computer engineering as Garmin scholars. These $5000 scholarships are the largest awarded by the department and are automatically renewed if the student continues to satisfy the conditions of the scholarship.

Inquiries and/or applications for departmental scholarships should be addressed to:
